One woman's journey to discover more about the woman who was her mother. Agnes Kavanagh was born in Tipperary, Ireland, one of nine children. In the 1930s she came to England, married an Englishman, and didn't go back to Ireland for 50 years. As a child the author was aware of her mother being different from the rest of the family, and that it was somehow connected to her being Irish. In Agnes's final years she began to talk of her past and reveal her youth and upbringing to the author. Only after her mother's death did Maggie Wadey travel to Tipperary and there began to discover the true story.
