Elvis Alves was born in Guyana and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is a graduate of Colgate University and Princeton Theological Seminary. Elvis’s poetry has appeared in several magazines and journals, including Poetry, Transition, Sojourners, and StepAway Magazine. Elvis is the author of Bitter Melon (2013), Ota Benga (2017), I Am No Battlefield But A Forest Of Trees Growing (2018), winner of the Jacopone da Todi poetry book prize, sponsored by Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio (US), and Black/White: We Are Not Panic (Pandemic) Free (2020). Elvis lives in New York City with his family.
