Phil Bennett captained Llanelli, Wales, the Barbarians and the British Lions and is recognised the world over as one of rugby union’s legends. Or as Willie John McBride puts it: ‘He was from another planet . . . There was nothing this guy couldn’t do.’ He remains one of the most well-liked of former players, a shrewd but sympathetic analyst on television and radio and in his newspaper columns, and a devoted follower and President of his beloved Scarlets.
